Like most indie dyers, my love affair with colour and yarn began when I was unable to find commercially-available yarn in just the right colour that I wanted. After doing a bit of research and getting invaluable guidance from someone who has mastered the craft (Her Royal Majesty Skein Queen Debbie Orr), I set out to start dyeing.
It was mostly selfish dyeing at first, and testing to see if I can pull it off. Looks like I did, on a small scale, because my knitting friends, my dear Amiras, have commented favourably on my early work. That inspired me to keep going, keep experimenting but specially listening to what my potential customer base is saying about trends, what they like, what they don’t like and what would work.
My own colour judgement is askewed towards the blue, green and purple persuasions, so dyeing for others meant that I need to use the entire spectrum and every shade, tone and hue in between that wide selection.
Dubai Knits started life in a little wheely suitcase that I used to (and sometimes still do!) bring to our local knitting group meet-ups. It grew slowly into our living room and moved on to Etsy but now has a home here, online, it’s own website and blog, and a Facebook page too!
Dubai Knits is the first and only hand-dyed yarn shop in the UAE (as of writing anyway). I am so lucky and glad to have shipped yarn to places as far as Japan, Australia, Canada, my hometown the Philippines, America and the UK. But the customer base that is dearest to me is the nearest: my Amiras, knitters and friends in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.
Thank you for your continued support. I really do appreciate it.
