Yarn babies delivered!

It makes me so happy when my yarn babies arrive in their new homes. Apart from one that is taking its own sweet time, all orders from the past couple of weeks have been delivered and are now in their new homes.

I hope you all enjoy transforming your new Dubai Knits yarns. If you are on Instagram, I would love it if you used #dubaiknits on your post so that I can see what becomes of my yarn babies. Feel free to tag me as well @dubaiknits.

There are still a few skeins in the store if you haven’t picked up your yarn for the Whakairo Cowl. Frenchie is also hosting the Spring Fibre Muse KAL! You can join in the Fibre Muse Circle Facebook group or on Instagram, using the hashtag #springfibremusekal. Follow Frenchie on Instagram @arohaknits for updates.

I started my own Whaikairo cowl yesterday on cast on day. I decided to use a skein of Luna dyed in cochineal which is then dipped in indigo. I was having a tough time choosing from all the Yara bases (which is what Frenchie used for the design) but decided to leave those for you all! Here is a look at my WIP after finishing the setup rows.

Saving the best for last: I will have Whakairo Cowl kits coming! The kit will include a choice of yarn base in pre-selected colourways plus a purchase code for the pattern on Ravelry. I’m working out the listing and will put them up shortly. There should be plenty of time for you to grab a kit and join the KAL.

I’ll be back with the kit update soon!

Shop update

It’s good to be back!

The shop has new yarns and new colourways, so please go check it out. Link is here, or you can click on the dropdown menu above that says “Shop”.

New things include new colourways for Luna and new yarns, yay! The shop now has mini-skeins, yes. From the same base as Luna so those how have knitted with this stuff will know what it’s about. They are a delight to dye! I can probably dye a truckload of minis all day. I call them Moonbeams, you know, because Luna. See what I did there?

I am also excited to bring to Dubai a squishy, luscious merino/nylon blend from Atelier Zitron. Their sock yarn is just amazing, it blooms like nobody’s business once it’s soaked so prepare for the squish! Anya has 435 generous yards in her 100g skeins. You would not regret knitting with this yarn, it’s like clouds in your hands. Seriously.

Also, sock blanks. What?! I initially brought the base for my own personal consumption but I thought it was selfish of me not to share, so here you go. Scrolls, double-knit goodness of merino/nylon blend that is dyed so that hopefully your pair of socks will have identical colours.

And, finally, for now anyway, sport weight yarn. Solis is a high-twist, plump 100% superwash merino yarn. It soaks up dye really well and I am looking forward to dyeing some more tomorrow, so expect new colours soon.

As always, contact me if you have any questions or would like a custom-dyed set of yarns.

Thank You

A lot of yarns are going to their new homes soon – thanks to everyone who supported the sale today.

Still plenty more left and the good stuff is yet to come. And by good stuff I mean the silk-blends. I could go post them now but I wanted to take better photos of the yarn so you can appreciate them better.

Faith, Hope and Love and Pure of Heart skeins will be posted soon.

Keep an eye out for them!

Spring Cleaning

It’s still officially winter here in Dubai and it’s knitter’s paradise! We in the sandpit get a very small window of opportunity to wear the woolen blend handknits that we make all year so when the weather drops down below 25 degrees, you bet the handknits come out!

It’s not as cold as previous winters, and definitely laughable compared to the bitter winter those in the northern hemisphere have to endure year after year, but a 20C day is a heck of a lot better than the 50C we have to suffer through during the summer months. So, you can forgive us for wanting winter to last just another week longer.

Since we only really get two types of weather here: hellfire and balmy, we do not get spring, or fall. We get something that resembles spring and that is a very narrow frame of time when the cold of winter leaves and the heat of summer arrives, so we make the most of it. This year, it’s all about cleaning up for me. My health, my exercise routine (or at least start one!), my eating habits, my work habits, and most specially the shop. It’s not easy managing this with a full-time job on the side, but I am grateful for each and every one of you who continue to support my little endeavour, most specially the local knitting group in the UAE, my Knitting Amiras. I would not still be doing this if not for you, honestly.

I want to keep going. I want to keep dyeing yarn, even if it’s for my own personal stash. I’ve taken the stock out of listing as I, once again, do an inventory and decide how to move forward. I would like to clear the current stock, and in order to do so, I believe the best way is to offer a clean-out sale.

So, watch this space while I figure out the best way to do this.

Thank you, once again, for your continued support.

Knit Workshop

A most wonderful thing has happened. The lovely Theresa of reMADE DXB approached me a while ago to ask if I was interested in doing a knitting workshop. I could hardly contain my excitement but had to play it cool, as you do. After a few evenings of frantic PM’ing and emailing and Whatsapping, we have now set the dates for the workshop.

knit workshop

The workshop will be held on the 21st and 28th Nov from 11am at the reMADE studio in Al Barsha. The studio is located at 1/F Objects & Elements, Opp Al Serkal Avenue, Street 8, Al Quoz 1, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Dubai Knits will provide the yarn for the workshop, using the Superwash DK base. And here’s a peek at the colours lined up for the workshop:

This is perfect for confident beginners and intermediate knitters who want to learn cables, seamless knitting in the round and other new techniques to add to their knitting arsenal. All materials will be provided, you just need to bring your knit game on!

In this 2 part workshop, knitting apprentices will be learning how to knit cable/use cable needles whilst practicing already established basic skills. Whether you’re a Harry Potter fan or not, this hat inspired by the original Hermione Hearts Ron with cables and eyelets is perfect for Autumn/Winter nights camping, for our friends and family abroad or that quick getaway to chillier climes.
