Last of the Silk

The last shipment of the Silk Club has all gone out. I hope club members enjoy this last shipment, as well as the rest of the club series.

It was fun working with an oversized skein. I had my doubts, to be honest, on whether I could dye consistently but the yarn was so forgiving, I need not have worried. This skein has 150g/600 yards of silk and superwash merino in it. Perfect for shawls! I am actually knitting up a Pin-striped Sweater Tee with undyed and grey skeins of Serenity. I’m loving it!

I had fun dyeing the variegated skeins for this shipment. I cannot wait to see this knitted up! Yes, that’s a less than subtle nudge to club members. Thank you all.

Thank you for participating in this round. I have not put up sign-ups for another round as I was not sure if there was interest. Hopefully we can work something out soon.

Club culture

Who doesn’t love a yarn club?

I personally love them! My very first club was Sundara’s Sock Club, back when it was very difficult to get hold of her beautiful hand-dyed yarns. I got lucky, I guess.

Dubai Knits, in its very young life, has done moderately successful yarn clubs. The first one was a labour of love: six shipments of yarn, original pattern and extras. I learned a lot from that experience, the most important being having fun while also working. And I got to work with a bunch of creative knitwear designers!

For someone who dyes more as a hobby than full-time, I still find sometimes that I get stuck thinking of what colours to dye next. I can only imagine how the popular indie dyers do it, dyeing exclusive club colours week in, week out. They must dream, think, eat, sleep in colour!

Anywho, I wanted to know if there is any interest in a club, or clubs. What are you looking for in a yarn club? What yarn weight would you like? Single skein or sweater quantity? With pattern or not? With club extras or not? Maybe an exclusive discount coupon for future purchase?

Now’s the time to let me know so that I can tailor-make the club just for you.
