Yarn babies delivered!

It makes me so happy when my yarn babies arrive in their new homes. Apart from one that is taking its own sweet time, all orders from the past couple of weeks have been delivered and are now in their new homes.

I hope you all enjoy transforming your new Dubai Knits yarns. If you are on Instagram, I would love it if you used #dubaiknits on your post so that I can see what becomes of my yarn babies. Feel free to tag me as well @dubaiknits.

There are still a few skeins in the store if you haven’t picked up your yarn for the Whakairo Cowl. Frenchie is also hosting the Spring Fibre Muse KAL! You can join in the Fibre Muse Circle Facebook group or on Instagram, using the hashtag #springfibremusekal. Follow Frenchie on Instagram @arohaknits for updates.

I started my own Whaikairo cowl yesterday on cast on day. I decided to use a skein of Luna dyed in cochineal which is then dipped in indigo. I was having a tough time choosing from all the Yara bases (which is what Frenchie used for the design) but decided to leave those for you all! Here is a look at my WIP after finishing the setup rows.

Saving the best for last: I will have Whakairo Cowl kits coming! The kit will include a choice of yarn base in pre-selected colourways plus a purchase code for the pattern on Ravelry. I’m working out the listing and will put them up shortly. There should be plenty of time for you to grab a kit and join the KAL.

I’ll be back with the kit update soon!

Spring Cleaning

It’s still officially winter here in Dubai and it’s knitter’s paradise! We in the sandpit get a very small window of opportunity to wear the woolen blend handknits that we make all year so when the weather drops down below 25 degrees, you bet the handknits come out!

It’s not as cold as previous winters, and definitely laughable compared to the bitter winter those in the northern hemisphere have to endure year after year, but a 20C day is a heck of a lot better than the 50C we have to suffer through during the summer months. So, you can forgive us for wanting winter to last just another week longer.

Since we only really get two types of weather here: hellfire and balmy, we do not get spring, or fall. We get something that resembles spring and that is a very narrow frame of time when the cold of winter leaves and the heat of summer arrives, so we make the most of it. This year, it’s all about cleaning up for me. My health, my exercise routine (or at least start one!), my eating habits, my work habits, and most specially the shop. It’s not easy managing this with a full-time job on the side, but I am grateful for each and every one of you who continue to support my little endeavour, most specially the local knitting group in the UAE, my Knitting Amiras. I would not still be doing this if not for you, honestly.

I want to keep going. I want to keep dyeing yarn, even if it’s for my own personal stash. I’ve taken the stock out of listing as I, once again, do an inventory and decide how to move forward. I would like to clear the current stock, and in order to do so, I believe the best way is to offer a clean-out sale.

So, watch this space while I figure out the best way to do this.

Thank you, once again, for your continued support.

Shop updated – finally!

Thank you for your patience – the In Stock listing is now up and running. Everything in the cupboard is now listed.

Apologies for the dodgy photos – I keep dropping hints to a certain somebody about needing a lightbox for product photography, even a DIY kind, and thank goodness they said they would sort it out for me, but unfortunately not in time for this shop update. Also, i had to reset my PC monitor to factory settings to be able to process photos t how they would appear in most PCs and handheld devices, i.e. I need my sunglasses as it’s at 90% brightness!

No matter, I aim to please so have at it. All the relevant sections have been updated, including the new yarn base, Luna. Thanks to the UAE Amiras yesterday for such a warm response to the newcomer. i only have a few single, one-of-a-kind skeins left. But don’t worry, I will be dyeing a few more over the next few days. Admittedly, the entire stock will be travelling with me to Abu Dhabi to meet with the Knitting Amiras there.

If you are in the UAE and would like to be able to see and squish the yarns in person, please drop me a message either on the blog, on Facebook or on email. Keep in mind please that I do have a day job so can only meet at the weekends. Alternatively, I will occassionally have a pop-up shop during the local Knitting Amiras meet-ups at The Lime Tree Cafe on Sheikh Zayed Road. Please follow them on their Facebook page to be notified of upcoming meet-ups.

More specifically, me and my yarns will be in Abu Dhabi this Friday, 14th November from around 12pm until 5pm at the Fashion Cafe, Al Wahda Mall. Do come by and say hi.

The shop cupboards are bare. Running inventory at the moment along with tidying things up and taking new, hopefully better photos of the yarn in stock.

In the meantime, here’s a peek at the newest yarn to join the family, Luna – 100% superwash merino, 4-ply fingering weight. shown here in Mixed Greens.

Please come back again soon. Thank you.
